Smiles All Around

I love Fridays.

They're my short days. Wahoo!

So, a bunch of funny/random experiences have been chasing themselves around my head today and I wanted to share them with you.

What better place than my blog, right?

Here goes!

Last week, at my piano lesson, I was wearing a purple shirt and I had a purple notebook. Today, I'm wearing a pink shirt and I had a pink notebook with me. Not only did my piano teacher (a male, no less) notice this, but he pointed out that it seems like I'm color-coordinating my notebooks with my outfits. HA! I think it's funny. Especially since I do color code things a lot... like my closet. But never before have I considered coordinating my shirts with my school supplies.

Two days ago, I saw a guy wearing orange overalls and big glasses standing on the sidewalk a little ways away from me as I was walking to class. As I got closer to him, he started flapping his arms up and down and spinning around in a circle really slowly. It was one of the most random things I have ever seen. And I laughed.

Last week I saw two people carrying neon green posters that said "FREE HUGS!". Oh, the things you see at USU.

I really, really, really love the kids in the Youth Conservatory class I'm assisting. I switched with Emily for a few weeks and I'm now with the 3 and 4 year olds. Oh my GOSH they are so cute. One of my favorite little girls is Sidney. She's has long blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes and she's absolutely adorable. She's always asking me to sit by her and she says the funniest and the cutest things. Yesterday as she was waiting her turn to draw a "great big whole note" on the whiteboard, she tugged on my shirt. I looked down at her and she looked up into my face with her great big blue eyes and said "May I please go give my mom a GREAT big hug?" I grinned at her and said she could if she hurried. She skipped to the back of the room and gave her cute mom a hug, came back to me, and thanked me. The look in her mom's eyes was so sweet. Ah. She's so cute. I hope I have a daughter like her someday.

Another kid in the class, Finn, is an extremely serious, no-nonsense little boy. He's always saying he doesn't want to participate in the games we play, but he'll answer any direct question about music that you ask him. He makes me chuckle quite frequently. However, knowing his personality, I was quite surprised when the following thing happened. I told a girl in the class that her red shirt with extra sparkly sequins on it was very cute. She smiled and thanked me. Finn looks over and says, with extreme gusto "wow, that IS cute!" Oh, I had the hardest time keeping my laughter inside. I love kids so much.

Today, as I was walking out of the library with my earphones in, I heard a "Hey!" from somewhere to my left. I wasn't sure if it was directed toward me, so I turned to check. An unfamiliar girl made eye contact with me, and I wasn't about to be rude, so I started talking to her. Our conversation:
me: "Oh, hi!" {racking my brain, trying to figure out if I know this girl}
her: "How are you?"
me: "I'm doing great, how are you?" {do I know her? who is this? have I seen her before?????}
her: "I'm so wonderful! I just got my mission call to Argentina! I report to the MTC in July!"
me: "Wow, that's incredible! Congratulations!" {by this point I was convinced I'd never seen this girl before in my life.}
her: "Yeah, I'm really excited!"
me: "Good, you should be!"
her: {turning left as I'm going straight} "Well, I left something in my car, so I'm gonna go figure that out. It was good to see you though! Have a great day!"
me: {completely bewildered} "Good to see you too! Bye!"
It was so strange. I know for a fact that I've never seen her in my life. I'm guessing she just thought I was someone else, but it's quite possible she was just excited about her call and she wanted to tell someone. Who knows. I'm just glad I kept my cool and no names were said so it wasn't awkward.

Life sure is funny, isn't it?

I absolutely love it.

Have a great weekend, amigos!

Mine's already starting off great.
