This One's for the Girls

Today, I witnessed a scene fit for a chick-flick.

After class, I was waiting at the bus stop, soaking in the rare sunshine and breathing in the slightly warmer air. Standing a few feet away from me was a pretty girl, dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes; her face flushed from her recent exercise. For a few minutes, we just stood there in complete silence, each of us in our own little world. Her phone then rang. I wasn't paying attention much, but I heard her say, over and over, "Wait, where? I can't see you! Where are you?"

Then, all of a sudden, a tall, dark, handsome man came around the corner. A huge grin spread across her face, she hung up the phone, and started walking toward him. Soon they were running toward each other. When they met, he picked her up, swung her around, gave her a short kiss on the lips and put her gently back on the ground. He took her hand, and they stood there together, smiling and talking quietly with each other while waiting for the bus.

I couldn't help but smile to myself as I witnessed this all happening. These things actually happen in real life, folks! I could see from their expressions that they truly loved each other. As we got on the bus, I stole another glance at them and saw rings on each of their left hands. They were newlyweds, I have no doubt.

On this first day of February, the month in which we celebrate Valentines Day, the longing for a moment like that may have crossed my mind. I feel entirely too young to get married, but if I had a man to literally sweep me off my feet like that every once in a while, I wouldn't complain. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy with my life at the moment. I don't need a guy to complete me. And, for heaven's sake, I'm 18. I don't need one right now. But a girl can dream, right?

In any case, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that couple at the bus stop today. They weren't gross in the slightest, just two people truly in love. Someday, I hope to have that, too. I hope to share a deep love like that with my special someone, for time and all eternity. But for now, I'll just stick to watching chick-flicks and smiling as I reflect on little moments like that.

P.S. Want to read some of my favorite stories about an adorable real-life couple? Click here, here, and here. She writes beautifully, yes? I love her blog.

Happy February! Woot. We're one step closer to spring!
