Call me crazy, but ever since I started watching The Office years ago, I always thought Pam Beesly had the best job. Perhaps I glorified it in my head because of her perfect romance with Jim, but I always thought I would love to do what she did.
Well, I've already got my Jim (literally. ha!) and now I have Pam's job, too - though I'd say mine is a step or two up from hers. :) I scored an awesome gig as a project assistant at an electrical company, and I couldn't be more thrilled about it.
The first few days were a little hectic, seeing as I am not even close to understanding electrical terminology, and they needed me to jump right in. But I've really started to get into a good groove and I already know what a GFI plug is (well, sorta). Plus, the job pays well, and it has benefits (whaaaaat?) and it's just a hop, skip, and a jump from our apartment so I can come home for lunch everyday. Boo yah, grandma. It rocks.
I've cycled through a lot of jobs in my life - and even just the past year alone - each of which I was truly blessed to have. But this place is one of the best I've ever had, and I can see myself working here for a long time. I love the people, I love the hours, and I love that they give me enough work to keep me busy - and then some. I used to think that having a job with endless downtime was where it was at, but really, it's so much better to be productive. It makes me feel so much more useful.
The best part? I finally feel like I'm becoming an adult, and that's a fantastic feeling.
