God Gave Us Families...

Since being called as the primary pianist in our ward, I've had the blessing of hearing the children sing every week and I absolutely love it. The messages in the primary songs are simple and clear, yet so incredibly powerful at the same time. It's such a joy to hear the children sing these songs, because I just know they believe the words with everything they have! I don't know if they realize just how much they carry the spirit as they sing.

One song that was especially powerful to me last year was "The Family is of God". It was in the primary program, and each time I heard the children sing it I was brought to tears. What a wonderful, beautiful message it contains. The verses were a little tricky, but the children always came in with such gusto and power on the chorus. And even though that was probably just because that was the part they knew the best, that was always the part where I felt the spirit the strongest. "God gave us families, to help us become what He wants us to be!"

Because of my love for this song, I was pleasantly surprised and so thrilled to hear it featured in the Women's Meeting last weekend. Before the video even started to play, the tears were already coming. I wasn't able to watch it Saturday, so I watched it Sunday evening at home and Jim can attest that I was pretty much weeping through the whole video.

The spirit spoke directly to my heart the truth of the words in that song as I listened to it again. I'm so grateful that God has a plan for each of our lives, and our homes and families are no exception. In fact, the home and family is crucial to that plan! Jim and I are both blessed to have wonderful parents and families, and are so excited about the start of our eternal family, too. (and no, that's not an announcement. ;)

Another thing I loved from the meeting was the message that we can all fulfill these roles God has outlined for us, no matter how things turn out in this life. "Family" doesn't just have to mean blood relatives - it can mean friends, teachers, mentors, peers, whomever. I have seen that firsthand in my life, and know that the scope of my family stretches far past just those I'm related to. We can all be a positive influence in someone else's life, and I know with all my heart that those roles are just as much a part of God's plan as those of "family members" in a more traditional sense. What beautiful message!

Happy Tuesday, friends.
