101 in 1001 #56: Buy some new running shoes. Complete February 2018

Alright, let's just skip all the "sorry I didn't blog for 3 months" stuff because I don't feel like writing out all my excuses. :) I've still been working on my list, though - so I'm gonna get back to documenting!

Since I've been a runner (okay, somewhat off-and-on) since high school, and seeing as my dad is also an avid runner, I've always known I need to replace my shoes about every year or so, depending on how much I've run that year. Well, silly me, but I hadn't gotten new shoes since my last half marathon in 2015 (yikes!) and I had been training for my most recent one with those super old shoes! I was starting to get shin splints and achy knees and all that bad stuff that comes from unsupportive shoes (at least for me). So, I finally buckled down and decided it was time for new ones.

A couple of things that were keeping me from wanting to do this were 1. The store I've gone to in the past was clear in Layton (okay really not that far, but everything feels far when you have to cart your kid around with you) and 2. The price tag. In high school my parents bought me nice running shoes and I was always super grateful, but because of that I knew I couldn't just get any old $30 pair from Kohl's, and all my pairs I've bought on my own since have been over $100. So, when it's time for me to get new ones I always pause a bit for that reason alone. But as I was starting to really hurt in my old shoes I knew I couldn't wait any longer, and I knew it would be worth it.

Luckily, at this time a new running shoe store opened like 2 minutes from my house, so I enlisted my brother to watch Jack (while he was napping, so, super easy) and hopped over to the store to have my stride and feet tested since it'd been awhile. The store (Wasatch Running in Centerville) was super fantastic and much better than my previous option, and the shoes recommended to me are AMAZING. I got the Asics Gel Kayano 24 (which have more foot support than I've ever had) and I'm obsessed. And, even though they're the most expensive ones I've ever bought, it's been worth every penny these last few months.

Anyway...  I don't know why I decided to go into so much detail about my running shoes, but let's just say it was quite the ordeal for me to actually get out there and buy these! Definitely the most expensive shoes I own, haha, but I love them and they're my absolute favorites I've ever had.

I guess I'll also say, if you're wanting to get really serious about running, definitely go to a running store and have them help you pick the right shoes! It really makes all the difference!!!

Happy Wednesday!

  1. Hooray for new shoes! Hooray for working on your list! And hooray for me because I got to read this! :D I didn't know that a running store could test your stride and stuff - that's neat!
