101 in 1001 #55. Run 2 other races besides a half (5K and 10K) || 1/2 Complete 7.14.2018: 5K

The only picture I took. Ha!
For many years now, my hometown of good old Farmington, Utah has put on a Festival Days the weekend after the 4th of July. Complete with Parade, 5K and 10K races, good food, fun music, fireworks and more, it's always a good event! For just about as long as this has been going on, my dad and his good friend from our ward put the race on. My dad helps pass out bibs and shirts the night before, dutifully gets up at 3:30AM to mark the course and then spends his morning manning the playlist and whatever else he can help with. Sometimes it's a bit stressful, but I know he enjoys being a part of it.

Since my dad's friend is in charge of the event, he always gets our family free shirts every year, which is neat! But on top of that, he'll also let us run the races for free if we want. This year, after my half marathon, I kind of fell off the running wagon. I ran a little bit here and there, but I wasn't being consistent about it. It's super hard for me to feel motivated to do it in the summer when it's so DANG HOT, but I decided I needed a little kick in the pants, so I asked them to sign me up for the 5K. I was hoping this would give me the kickstart I needed to get off my duff and RUN! Well, it did. :) It was the perfect thing to get me out of my rut and I ran for 2 weeks leading up to it. Definitely not the best amount of training, but better than nothing!

The race itself is so fun. Without fail, the atmosphere of a race, whether big like the SLC half or relatively small like this hometown race, just gets me SO pumped to run! I ran it pretty slow (and there were some pretty intense hills) but it was just what I needed to feel that joy of running again! Nothing beats that feeling of crossing a finish line. I've been keeping up my running this week, and even getting up at 5:30 so I can go before Jim leaves for work! Even though it's already 75 degrees by that point, it's been really refreshing to get up with the sun. And I don't regret one minute of it.

Happy Wednesday!
